Nate brought his girlfriend Genavieve and his roommate Anthony home for Christmas this year.
On Christmas eve we packed five adults, one medium sized dog, presents, and goodies into a smallish car and headed over the mountain to my folks' house.
(Good King Wenceslas is "our" song. We know all the verses and have been singing it together for many years.)
and my brother Dave came for dessert.

A fun Christmas.

This morning my house is quiet, very quiet, and I am enjoying the solitude. Happy New Year, everyone!

What a lovely gathering of happy people! It is a joy to look at your photos. I no longer celebrate in any traditional way, but I still get my joy and I remember when my holidays looked more like yours. Both ways have much in their favor. Happy New Year, Doozyanner!

Limes, this was the first year in a long while that we've done the "Christmas with the family" thing. It took several years, but I finally realized that the drama was not fun. I wasn't sure how this year would go, but knew we had the option of getting back into that smallish car if necessary. Thankfully, we didn't have to. Of course, all the key players were not present--only 3 out of 7 siblings there. It also helps that my kids are now adults and have clearer vision when it comes to my family than I do.
Oh and it helped having Gen and Anthony along--we always play nicer when strangers are among us!
Oh, my gosh, do I understand this! Rotting elephant carcasses, I believe you once said. One never forgets the smell.
